Introducing Gretchen and Justin Helling

We were so excited to see Joanna Tano’s gorgeous pictures of our Maui wedding bride and groom, Justin and Gretchen Helling. We truly adore this couple and their wedding was one of the most amazing ones we’ve been to…especially because you could really feel the love in every aspect of their day. What a perfect day for a perfect couple.

The Rehearsal Dinner Question

The question is…Who is invited to the rehearsal dinner? Some people say that family, everyone in the wedding, and all the out-of-town wedding guests. Others don’t want to include all the out-of-towners.

So really…Who is invited to the rehearsal dinner?

The truth is that the rehearsal dinner guest list can include just the two of you, your immediate families, the wedding party, and the officiant. Or, it can be a larger event, including all the out-of-town guests (or at least all those who will have already arrived in town for the wedding). It’s truly up to you, but the reason many couples do include out-of-towners (especially when the rehearsal dinner is the night before) is so they’re not left stranded in their hotel rooms. It’s all about being a good hostess. However, it’s your prerogative to want an intimate party. If you know the out-of-towners will be fine entertaining themselves, don’t worry about it. Or, ask another relative or friend to host a cocktail party for the out-of-town guests that evening. Another option, and one that might be really helpful,  is to have your rehearsal dinner two nights before the wedding, and hang out with your out-of-towners the night before.

Mad Libs just aren’t for kids anymore

This is maybe just the cutest idea I have seen in QUITE awhile…and that is saying a lot!!! One of our favorite blogs, Style Me Pretty, featured this swoon-filled wedding from an adorable couple in Indiana. While much of their wedding was phenomenal, the most amazing thing that we noticed were the adorable mad lib inspired guest cards that were put at each table placement. Guests were asked to fill them in and turn them back to the bride and groom so they could read them after the wedding. Seriously….absolutely adorable.

Love. Love. Love.

Mason Jars…How we LOVE thee

Mason Jars simply put are the coolest thing since sliced bread. Okay…maybe there have been some other really cool things to come around since sliced bread BUT…Mason Jars to weddings are just the bees knees. As I looked at a variety of images today for a bride who wants to use mason jars in her wedding, I found myself drawn to the following images and though I would share for those of you who also heart the mason jars many uses.

Words of love and gratitude

People ask why we love our job. The wonder how we can absolutely adore spending our weekends with brides and grooms and their families and friends. They question us when we spend our free time talking about how so and so would just LOVE that for her wedding or how we should definitely remind so and so of this or that. Yes we love our job for a billion and one reasons but it is truly when we hear from our brides and grooms afterwards, that we realize just how lucky we are.

“Words cannot express our gratitude to Shannon and Vikki-our wedding day was the best day of our lives, thanks to them! It turned out better than I could have ever imagined. Everything went so smoothly and they went above and beyond to give us our dream wedding. Even while they were working, they seemed to truly be enjoying themselves, which just shows how much they love what they do. They complement each other so well and are the perfect team. Thank you Shannon and Vikki for helping to give us our perfect day!!!” ~Gretchen Helling, married August 9, 2010 in Maui Hawaii

All You Need Is Love

It’s spreading:)

Honeymoon

Okay, so I admit that I might just be as excited for the wedding as I am for the honeymoon! We changed our honeymoon plans several times (Greece…New Zealand…Mexico…), but decided on a place that many of our friends have been too and we’ve never heard a bad thing about – Costa Rica!Brian and I will be staying at the very same place the other half of All You Need is Love Events went on her honeymoon – Paradisus Playa Conchal and I SWEAR it was purely by coincidence we booked the same resort!!

We couldn’t be more excited to lounge by the pool, go zip lining through the rainforest, and eat some awesome ceviche!

Where are you going on your honeymoon? If you already went, where did you go? If you haven’t booked it yet, where do you want to go?!

What are you most excited for?

As many of you know, I tie the knot with my babe of 6.5 years next Friday, September 10th in La Jolla, CA. As we went over all the last things we need to wrap up this week, we talked about what we are most excited for as our big day fast approaches. I thought I would share my answers and would love to hear from all you brides out there what YOU are most looking forward to on your big day!

1. Walking Down the Aisle

Brian and I decided early on not to see each other before the ceremony, which was a big debate between us and many photographers. I absolutely understand seeing each other before and Shannon and I often recommend it to many brides, but for me, that moment when I walk down the aisle and see all my best friends, our officiant/best friend Ari, and all his best friends standing up there, it is absolutely one of the moments I am most excited about. To see Brian’s face, as I walk down the aisle, as his soon to be wife, will make me absolutely lose it! I know the tears will already be flowing for me and I wouldn’t change that moment for anything.

2. Our Reception with 100 Guests

We really cut down our guest list from about 150 to about 100 because it was important to us that every single person there is someone that we know and love and that has supported us through the years and will continue to support us in all the years of our life together. I couldn’t love our friends and family more and just that feeling of having everyone in the same room at the same time, eating, drinking, and dancing the night away, brings me more joy then I could ever imagine.

3. Saturday Morning

When it all comes down to it, this whole extravaganza comes down to one simple thing – Brian and I are becoming husband and wife and I truly cannot wait for Saturday morning to wake up to my new husband and begin the rest of our lives together.

Okay brides! Your turn! What are YOU most excited for on your big day?

As fall approaches

Summer is coming to a close. Kids are starting to go back to school. September is right around the corner and Halloween will be here and then Thanksgiving. The fall brides are busily creating their color themed ideas that match the feel of all things the season.

WELL…how adorable would it be to offer instead of your typical dessert fair, a candy apple bar (the miniature apples of course).  Here are the directions on how to make an adorable caramel apples for your wedding.

Ingredients

  • 24 miniature apples, washed and stemmed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Sticks to use at the end.

Directions

  1. Insert a 5-inch dowel or ice pop stick into the top of each apple. Place hazelnuts in a small bowl.
  2. Place sugar, corn syrup, cream, and butter in a small saucepan, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Continue cooking until the temperature registers 245 degrees.on a candy thermometer, 10 to 12 minutes. Fill a large bowl with ice water. Remove saucepan from heat, and briefly plunge it into ice water to stop the cooking. Dip one apple into the caramel, coat the top and sides using a spoon,  Transfer to a serving platter. Repeat with the remaining apples.
  3. Place the wood sticks into top of apples to “act as stem”

OR…You could just go HERE and order them:) Always like to provide the alternative
