My mother (the best mom ever) and sister (maid of honor and best friend) hosted an amazing shower for me when I got married. The theme was “An Around the Clock Shower”. What is that you ask? While some people may interpret the idea differently, generally it’s a shower that highlights different “times” during the day that leads guests to give particular gifts that coincide with a time of day. Each guest will be assigned a “time,” such as breakfast time or bath time. Their gifts then, should reflect this time, so that a breakfast gift could be a breakfast tray with a tea pot and a selection of teas and jams. For bath time, one could bring his and hers bath towels and bubble bath. The idea here is to shower the bride with a wide variety of gifts that are creative and useful for all the times of their lives. Adorable right? But hard to explain to guests! So here is a little poem you can use to help guide guests in the theme!
Shannon and Tyson will soon be man and wife
We want to help prepare them for their new life.
They need towels and blenders and sheets and pots
We’ll give you each a time of day and you can connect the dots!
Find something they need for that time of day.
We’ll help get them organized so they can enjoy them in their own way.
Maybe after this shower when their house is in sync,
They’ll invite us all over for a dinner and drink!
Your time is ___________ a.m. or p.m.
Vikki and I had a VERY busy weekend…and an amazing one at that. On Thursday we attended Truly Yours’ opening of the Oviatt Penthouse. Delightful people, fantastic food, and a location full of history and beauty. Thank you Roxy and Chris for hosting such a wonderful event.
Saturday, we met with Brooke and Michael at the gorgeous Adamson House in Malibu for their walkthrough. They were joined by Brooke’s parents who were great as well. We came up with some amazing ideas and we are getting so excited to see all of the phenomenal things that these two will create for their special day.
Saturday evening, we attended the wedding of two of our closest friends, Justin and Jodi. These two met in graduate school while getting their Psychology degree and got engaged on Jodi’s birthday this year. They decided to tie the knot in our hometown and the reception was held at Justin’s parents gorgeous house. This is a place where I spent MANY days and nights in high school and college so it was truly a treat to be celebrate their special day in a place that is so near and dear to our hearts. Justin’s father officiated the wedding on the sparkling sand of Westward Beach. What was really spectacular was Justin and Jodi’s vows. Instead of one reading what they wrote and then the other, they chose to alternate lines. It felt as if we were all witnessing a very intimate conversation of their promises to each other for life. We were also thrilled to have Truly Yours catering their event. Needless to say, the food and the ambiance was phenomenal. We danced into the night, and all watched as Justin and Jodi made their way up the stairs and off into the night. It was truly magical.
Sunday, Vikki and I met another potential bride who is getting married at one of our all time favorite venues Ojai Valley Inn and Spa. We had a great meeting and know that this bride is going to have a spectacular wedding…she is in the hands of our favorite person ever Tiffany Emch.
All in all…it was a fantastic weekend spent with gorgeous brides and grooms, thrilling weddings, and heartwarming friends and family! We are counting down the days till we head to The Canary Hotel to introduce the world to Mr and Mrs. Hobbs! We also can’t wait to see one of our favorite photographers, Laura Grier, with Beautiful Day Photography. We are constantly reminded that love is all you need!!
I love do it yourself crafts. I really do. When I find the perfect craft, I have to share with our lovely brides and readers. This adorable idea from Mrs. Priss is another one of those delectable DIY projects that I hope our brides will want to make (and send us pictures of). Enjoy!
Cut small squares out of felt (about the size of your hand). Use a pen or pencil to draw a swirl to help you cut your felt. This will help guide you. If you can do it without it, that is perfectly okay:)
After you cut out the swirly circle pattern, take the outside end of your felt circle (it’ll make sense once you’re there) and start rolling it up toward the center.
Once you’re finished rolling the felt, dab a little glue to the remaining end and secure it to the bottom of the rosette.
These rosettes are versatile and can be glued into a little bundle on top of an alligator clip…
Or used as adorable little gift toppers…
Two of our good friends are getting married tomorrow and at their rehearsal dinner this evening, the bride’s brother and sister-in-law gave them an adorable wedding gift. They prepared a baset full of different types of wines wrapped with different ribbons/fabric and attached an adorable poem that denoted what each bottle was for. So of course, I had to let you know about it. While this is not the exact poem, it is still a great one that gives you a feel for the idea:)
Wedding Night- (white tulle)
The night you have dreamed of is finally here.
The future surrounds you with hope and yet fear.
You’ve wanted so long to find your mate.
Sip this wine and toast this date.
The night is meant for you to share.
Enjoy each other a perfect pair.
First Dinner party- (gold tulle)
As you open your home to all of your friends to entertain and eat.
It’s a place for old friends to catch up and new ones to meet.
When the night is over two great hosts can share this bottle of wine.
But don’t sit down yet pull up your sleeves because now it’s clean up time.
First fight- (black tulle)
When fights occur as they sometimes will and tempers are steaming hot.
Pour a glass take a sip and be thankful for what you’ve got.
For in a marriage if everyone agreed it would certainly be a bore.
And by asking for my friends hand Jordan’s surely in for more!
Christmas Eve- (red and green tulle)
A wise man turned to a friend and said wine is better than beer.
And now is the season for friends and fun and lots of holiday cheer.
So pop the cork and relax a bit and when the night is through,
Kiss goodnight, close your eyes and Santa will be good to you.
First Anniversary- (cream tulle)
Tonight you’ve been married a year one wonders where the time goes.
No longer are you newlyweds, soon you’ll be pro’s.
I hope the days have found you both in good health and spirit.
Keep saying I love you one always needs to hear it.
Now toast this date known as the first but certainly not the last.
And as you build your future don’t ever forget the past.
1st Baby-(pink and blue tulle)
The news that a baby will soon share your life will make you a mother not only a wife.
You’ll see it through good times and sometimes bad.
Leslie the loving mother, and Jordan the dearest dad.
Now Jon must drink this one alone, and Christy with an empty glass.
Sit back and relax nine months they quickly pass!
We’ve blogged many times about how much we just love a good welcome bag. It’s definitely a special little touch that isn’t at all necessary, but can really go a long way to welcome your guests to your wedding. I really wanted to do welcome bags because we had many friends staying at the hotel where we were getting married and most had travelled at least a few hours to get there. Plus, it was a super fun and easy way to be creative, have fun, and do it all quite economically!
We started with an 8×10 muslin bag from here. Momma Pang stamped each bag with a stamp that said LOVE and a stamp with a tree.
Included in each bag were: 1. Champagne Splits. 2. Bottle of Water with personalized label 3. Cookies 4. Tylenol packet 5. Green and Black Tea from a local tea company 6. And a little assortment of candy.
Each bag was tied with my favorite yellow twine that was all over this Love in La Jolla wedding and included a welcome note. Our welcome note said:
Dear Family and Friends,
As we celebrate our love and commitment to each other today, we are honored that you are here to witness our vows, bless our union and help celebrate the most important day in our new life together.
Included in this bag are local cookies and tea, drinks to help celebrate and recover, and a few other small goodies as a token of our appreciation. We hope they make your trip more comfortable and enjoyable.
Many years from now we will look back on this weekend and know that the most important part of this celebration (besides becoming husband and wife) was to be surrounded by loved and cherished friends and family. We are blessed to have you here.
With love and appreciation,
Vikki and Brian
Clothesline displayed escort cards have been making a huge splash in the wedding world and we totally are jumping in! One adorable idea we saw at Forget Me Knot is these simple clothespins attached with a die cut heart. These told people what table they were seating at and lead them into the main room. The heart theme then continued to the place cards left at each individual seat. Sweet and simple. Perfect to welcome your guests into your special day with love.
Hello blog world! Recently back from an incredible past couple weeks, I wanted to slowly begin to share the details of our big day!
First up…the photobooth.
We decided about 6 months ago that we really wanted a photobooth because it would be a great way to get some fun, easy photos of our family and friends. However, we wanted to do it really inexpensively and totally stress free. We decided to DIY it instead of getting a professional to come in and charge a minimum of $1000, so here’s how we did it!
Backdrop: I found this great Damask Window treatment from Pier 1 and asked the advice of our good friend Karen if she thought it would work. Well, lucky us, not only did she think it would work, but she had them already in her studio and let us borrow them! Score!
Props: Found here on etsy, but borrowed from Quinn!
Chalkboards: Purchased from our bride Monica who found them at the Pasadena Flea market!
Photographer: We were lucky enough to have one of our guests and good friends Daniel offer to be the photographer for us. He is a fulltime video editor but also does video shooting and photography, so he had all the equipment (lighting, camera, etc) to do a fabulous job! We were so lucky to have him there!
We used a projector screen (from the husband’s office) to hold up the backdrop and boom! Instant Photobooth!
You can see all the photos here!
